COLUMBIA, SC (January 19, 2010) - Senator Martin worked very hard with his colleagues to get this resolution passed to re-affirm our State Sovereignty. It doesn't have the force of law, but it sends a message to Washington to remember that we have a Constitution with 9th and 10th amendments and puts them on notice that our Attorney General will challenge the Constitutionality of any federal mandate. Language was added to target any federal health care legislation by saying SC residents are not subject to any law that:
* Interferes with the right of a person to choose their health care provider
* Restricts a person's freedome to choose a private health care system or plan
* Interferes with a person's or entity's right to pay directly for medical services
* Imposes a tax, penalty or fine for choosing a health care provider, obtaining or declining health care coverage or participating in any particular health care system or plan.
Language was also added to recognize our 2nd amendment!!!!
