COLUMBIA, SC (January 28, 2010) - Today the Senate reached a compromise on the Election Reform Bill. Early voting will be implemented along with voter ID after it passes the House and funding is allocated in the final budget. All new voters will be required to have a picture on their voter registration card. Current registered voters can use their existing registration card provided they show a picture ID when they vote.
This will still have to clear Justice Department approval, but this compromise should ensure that it passes. It looks like we can have this implemented by the 2012 General Election - since there isn't enough time to receive pre-clearance and full Justice Department approval before the election this year.
