I wish to inform you of my actions relative to the proposed resettlement of refugees in Spartanburg. Since Mid-March, I have been emailing Congressman Trey Gowdy’s office information regarding this issue.  Congressman Gowdy has demanded answers from the US Secretary of State, John Kerry, and I applaud him for that. You can read his letter here: https://gowdy.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/gowdy-requests-information-spartanburg-refugee-resettlement-program

Some of my colleagues in the SC House of Representatives have asked Governor Nikki Haley, who must approve the program in the first place, for additional information. Governor Haley is the only one in SC with the power to actually put a stop this and I hope that she takes a position on this issue soon!

I have written to the SC Department of Social Services (DSS), the cabinet agency responsible for conducting this program in SC, if it indeed is carried out. SC DSS must follow several federal statutes which require specific accountability measures. You may read my email here by clicking here.

I have received no reply from SC DSS, and to my knowledge, no other inquiries have been answered either. This only serves to heighten my concern. I will work to keep this issue in the public eye, through media and other outlets, until we all get some answers from the government officials responsible for this program. I will update you further as we get more information, and with your help, we will do all we can to stop the importation of dangerous individuals into our hometown.
